The McCandless Collection will take you back to the days of "The Forward Look Era" automotive design, racing, and drivers themselves. We guarantee an unforgettable experience. With so many classic vehicles under one roof, we have something everyone will get excited about.

On May 15th, 1970 Herb received a call from Buddy Martin to drive the #2 team car for Sox & Martin, a 1970 Plymouth Duster. The car was originally constructed by Dave Christie at the Sox & Martin shop and built as a second car for Ronnie, although Ronnie preferred the Plymouth Barracuda.

The car was immediately match raced on a weekly basis and in July of 1970, got its first NHRA final round with a runner up to Dick Landy. Herb went on to win Pro Stock the first time it was contested at the US Nationals in 1970.

Herb continued his winning streak at the AHRA Nationals in Amarillo, Texas. The car was raced through the end of the year but on the trip home from Ontario it was totaled in a towing accident. This is a tribute I had made for Dad by Greg Fernald from SS/AFX in New River, AZ. At Carlisle 2019, this car was debuted to Dad, who had no idea this was a project from the previous year.

The 1970 Sox & Martin Pro Stock Plymouth Duster Tribute is a true gem among classic muscle cars. As a tribute to the original Pro Stock Plymouth Duster built by the legendary Sox & Martin Racing team, this car is a perfect representation of the golden era of drag racing.

This particular Duster Tribute is powered by a massive 528 cubic inch V8 engine, which produces an astounding 800 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a Lenco 4-speed manual transmission and a Ford 9-inch rear end, making it one of the most powerful and capable muscle cars of its time.

The design of the 1970 Duster Tribute is truly striking. The body lines are sleek and aerodynamic, with a distinctive “shaker” hood scoop and a bold “Plymouth” decal on the side. The car sits on a set of 15-inch front and 16-inch rear American Racing wheels, which perfectly complement the overall look of the vehicle.

Inside, the 1970 Duster Tribute is just as impressive. The cabin is sparse, with a full roll cage, high-back bucket seats, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a full set of AutoMeter gauges to keep track of all the important information. The car also features a Hurst shifter, making gear changes smooth and precise.

Overall, the 1970 Sox & Martin Pro Stock Plymouth Duster Tribute is a true classic that stands the test of time. With its powerful engine, stunning design, and unparalleled performance, it’s the perfect vehicle for anyone who appreciates the golden era of muscle cars. Whether you’re a classic car enthusiast or just looking for a unique and exciting vehicle, the 1970 Duster Tribute is sure to impress. It’s a true American muscle car legend that will always hold a special place in the hearts of classic car enthusiasts.
